During fourth quarter, Longfellow Liberal Arts teamed up with the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) to deliver college and career readiness lessons to the 3rd and 6th grades.
Courtnie Reeder, who works for ISAC's community outreach, provided lessons surrounding Flat Stanley for 3rd grade and college and career terminology for 6th grade. 3rd grade students talked about careers A-Z, compared and contrasted elementary school to college, and played college bingo during the three week lessons. Students also made their own Flat Stanleys, who were sent to Augustana College, Western Illinois University-Quad Cities, and Black Hawk College. Participating institutions were generous enough to provide goodies for the students!
In the 6th grade sessions, students played a career game, learned about college terminology, and discovered what higher education celebrities had! At the end of their three weeks, they were joined by Dr. Bruce Storey from Black Hawk College Career Services to learn more about career options through a career assessment. They also received donations through ISAC and Black Hawk College.
